The Connection Between Consumption and Creation

This is an excellent video from John Spencer on the idea of “” rel=”noopener”>Why Consuming is Necessary for Creation“:

Paraphrasing this analogy before from John Medina speak (author of “Brain Rules“), that  “creation without content would be the equivalent of playing the air guitar; you know the motions but do not understand how to play the instrument.”

In this article, “This is the single most important skill of the 21st century that will take your career to the next level,” the skill they share is the ability to learn and adapt. They give countless examples of people that focus on reading for their development. This quote resonates:

“Those people who develop the ability to continuously acquire new and better forms of knowledge that they can apply to their work and to their lives will be the movers and shakers in our society for the indefinite future.”

Ideas without action lead to little progress, but action without ideas often lead to progress without direction.  As John reminds us, consumption and creation are connected, not in opposition
