How Our Conversations in Education Should Begin #LeadMoment
I wanted to play around with the medium of YouTube and see how I can use it to share ideas in meaningful ways. I have started watching more YouTube channels, from all different areas, and now I am starting to study them. Why do people watch them? What makes them appealing? How do we connect messages in meaningful ways?
My goal is to share 1-2 YouTube videos in episodes called, #LeadMoment. Short leadership anecdotes and stories, between 1-3 minutes in length.
The first episode is focused on how we start our conversations in leadership. No matter your position, we need to focus on who we serve, and work backwards from there. With this vision starting at the beginning, is it easier to actually bring people together, while making us thinking deeply about is the change actually better than what we have been doing before. It is not innovation, if it is not better; it is simply change for the sake of change.
Here is the first episode. Would love your thoughts on the content as well as the delivery.

The Bookalicious Babe is Going on Vacation! And Yes, I'll be Bringing Books
October is one of those months where I really love to hunker down and begin my cold weather reading. I especially love to read slightly darker, more paranormally (not an actual word, but I'm going with it) novels. It's just a short hop to Christmas, too. I'm a sucker for a fun Christmas romance.
With the advent of e-readers, most people who travel just take that with them, and read on the go. I'm a bit of an old fashioned creature, and I prefer having paperbacks with me when I travel. They don't need recharging, I can read them anywhere, and I usually will leave them behind when I'm finished. I have two with me on the plane, and the rest packed in my luggage. I sit down, buckle up, and start reading.
So what am I taking with me on this trip? I've been wanting to start the Jim Butcher series The Codex Alera, so book one: The Furies of Calderon is coming with me. I'm a fan of Heather Graham's Krewe of Hunters series and I've got three to read; I'm a bit behind! Another series I really enjoy is Simon Green's Ghost Finders. It's darker, for sure, but I love it. It would make a pretty good BBC series. And I just might toss in a romance to even it all out.
Luckily, I am traveling with friends who are equally enamored with books and reading--we all met working at a bookstore, so I think you'll probably understand our mindset.
And who knows, my e-reader may just come with me, too.
I'll be back with fresh reviews in a few weeks! Ciao!

Pomegranate Ginger Punch
Pomegranate Ginger Punch is a goblin brew perfect for your grown-up Halloween party. It packs a delicious punch – pun intended!
This is a sponsored post on behalf of Everclear. All opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that continue to make My Baking Addiction possible.
I’m really getting into Halloween this year. I think we’re going to go all out again this year, with a huge party for kids and adults alike. Who says kids have to have all the fun, right?
I can’t decide if we should do a family costume, or each do our own thing. I think this will largely fall on Elle’s shoulders. I’m no fool – there’s only so much you can force an opinionated toddler into, and a themed costume for all three of us when all she wants to do is dress up as Doc McStuffins just may not be in the cards. Unless of course we can find adult sized Lambie and Stuffy costumes, then game on.

“We expect innovation in every organization except for the one we work in.”
Recently in a workshop, I asked a participant if I could use their phone and write a tweet from their account to get them some information. When they handed me their iPhone, I realized that it was an iPhone 4, and confirmed that with them. Compared to my iPhone 7, it seemed so small, and to be honest, quite slow. I kind of laughed in my head, not because of the quality of the phone, but just thinking about a story directly connected to myself and this same version of phone.
When the iPhone 4 came out, I believe it was the first version of the phone that had cameras on both sides. FaceTime was a thing, but didn’t really work that well. It was a considerable upgrade from the previous version of the phone. It would also be my first iPhone.
Wanting this so badly, I decided to go to a kiosk where I could buy this phone on the first day of it’s release. I got up at about 4am, headed to the mall, and was so glad that I was the first to be in line to get the phone. Even if they only had one iPhone, I would get it!
5am rolls around I am still the only one around.
6am, same thing. As well as 7am and 8am. I am still the only one in line.
As the store was opening at 9am, and it was about five minutes prior, the gentleman running the counter said, “Do you want to just get it now?”, as I stood alone in the line. I spent the morning sitting outside a store by myself, watching several senior citizens do laps around the mall. I could have just been there at 9am and got the same phone!
And now I would never want that phone. It is too slow, too small, the camera is not that good, etc., because I have experienced something much better. I waited almost 5 hours in a line (of 1) for a phone I wouldn’t even want anymore.
It reminded me of one of my favourite, unknown quotes:
We expect innovation in every organization except for the one we work in.
What will we look at ten years from now in education and think, “Why in the world did we do that?” Hopefully something, because that means we have become better than what we are now.
